bim.GROUP Colleague Gave a Lecture at the Sustainability Roadshow

Király Krisztián, a colleague from bim.GROUP, recently delivered new lectures as part of the Sustainability Roadshow organized by the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers, with stops in Kakasd and Kecskemét. His presentation focused on current efforts in sustainable construction and the latest findings of a PhD research project, conducted in collaboration with KÉSZ Group, bim.GROUP Kft., and Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The audience included architects, building services engineers, and structural engineers.

During the lecture, Krisztián emphasized the importance of sustainability in construction, highlighting global trends and initiatives. He also presented real-life examples of dismantlable structures, which align well with the circular economy model—as these structures can be easily assembled, disassembled, transported, and reassembled at different locations with minimal energy and labor investment.

He also addressed the significance of measuring and limiting the embedded carbon value of structural elements as a key sustainability metric.

In his doctoral research, Krisztián is developing a dismantlable steel-concrete hybrid structural system based on these principles. The first compression test program was completed in spring 2023, and the next large-scale beam test program is scheduled for this summer.

Both his sustainability reports and research findings have been published multiple times in domestic and international scientific journals and conferences.

He concluded his Chamber of Engineers presentation by stating that beyond economic and political solutions, the engineering community has a responsibility to develop and implement the technical solutions necessary for sustainable construction.
