The design and construction of Ashgabat International Airport was the largest investment in the history of Turkmenistan located in Central Asia. The international cooperation was carried out by Baumetall Ltd., which was later merged into bim.GROUP and has since been one of the most important milestones of our company. The building envelope of the airport in the capital of Turkmenistan was both a long-awaited design challenge and an opportunity to showcase our engineering skills. And for these reasons we are proud of our project and the final result to this day.
Ashgabat International Airport is the ars poetic of our bim.GROUP design team. The complexity of its forms has already left the framework of industrial perceptions during the processing and has become a detailed artistic creation before our eyes. The two terminal buildings, which require sophisticated 3D modelling skills, are modelled on the Turkmen falcon. The client's requirements called for the building to be clad with rectangular single and double curved ALU panels. All this mounted on a roofing system Rib-Roof standing seam metal plate cover for ensuring watertightness. For our engineers and technicians, all of this required a great deal of concentration – particularly in maintaining the 15 mm gap between the panels.
