BIM-based engineering design for an innovative solar parking system

Greentech Solar Parking is an innovative solar carport system that offers an engineering response to the unused potential of urban and industrial parking areas. The solution provides shading, a more protected parking environment and renewable energy generation at the same time, transforming a conventional parking function into active energy-producing infrastructure.
The development is connected to the Greentech division of KÉSZ Metaltech and reflects a clear direction towards sustainable building and structural solutions. The prototype in Kecskemét was realised with the professional partnership of sbp sonne GmbH and the cooperation of several companies connected to the KÉSZ Group.

A lightweight structure with complex engineering behind it
The essence of the solar parking system is that the supporting structure should remain light and space-efficient while still providing the necessary stability, durability and ease of assembly. The filigree, tension-based structural logic supports material efficiency, a refined appearance and construction rationality at the same time.
In a system like this, the structure is much more than a frame for photovoltaic panels. Geometry, connections, fixings, panel arrangement, drainage, assembly sequence and long-term operation all form one coordinated engineering system.
Bim.GROUP’s role in the project
Bim.GROUP’s task in the Greentech Solar Parking project was to provide the digital, BIM-based design and modelling background. The aim was to turn the innovative structural concept into a technical system that could be clearly interpreted, manufactured, assembled and checked.
bim.GROUP’s engineering role was especially important in the detailed development of the structural logic, the modelling of joints and connections, and the preparation of digital design documentation suitable for fabrication and construction. The BIM-based workflow allowed the development to function not only as a striking prototype, but also as a scalable and further developable product concept.
Digital design as added value
In 2025, the project received recognition at the TEKLA BIM Awards in the Small Projects category, highlighting Greentech Solar Parking not only as a sustainability-focused development, but also as a notable digital engineering achievement.
bim.GROUP’s contribution was decisive in providing the lightweight, tension-based structural system with an accurate BIM model and engineering background that supports fabrication, checking, assembly and future development. Greentech Solar Parking is therefore a strong example of how sustainable product development, steel structure thinking and digital design culture can be connected within one project.
