Fabrication design of installation and shading steel structures in an urban green landmark project
The Millenáris Széllkapu is one of Budapest’s most distinctive public space and park developments, created as part of the regeneration of the Millenáris district. The project aimed not only to establish a park, but to create a complex urban space that simultaneously serves recreational, mobility, and aesthetic functions, strongly integrating architecture, landscape architecture, and structural engineering. One of the defining elements of Széllkapu is its striking large-scale steel installation and shading system, which forms both a visual and functional backbone of the park’s spatial organization. The structure not only provides shading but also acts as a space-defining element, giving rhythm, direction, and identity to the green area.

Steel installation and shading structure fabrication design
Client / investor: Millenáris Nonprofit Kft.
General contractor: KÉSZ Csoport
Steel usage: approx. 380 tons
Project type:
urban park development
complex architectural
steel shading installation
In the project, bim.GROUP was responsible for the fabrication design of the installation and shading steel structures, covering a system built with approximately 380 tons of steel. The design process placed strong emphasis on geometric refinement, alignment of manufacturability and constructability, and ensuring the high aesthetic standards required in an urban environment.
The structure is characterized by its long-span yet visually lightweight design, which integrates into the park’s organic landscape while requiring highly precise steel fabrication and assembly logic. During fabrication design, BIM-based coordination played a key role, particularly due to complex geometric connections and the handling of bespoke elements.
Today, Millenáris Széllkapu stands as one of Budapest’s iconic urban green spaces, creating a unique, livable environment at the intersection of contemporary landscape architecture and structural engineering design.
