The achievements continue to come for the bim.GROUP team. This time, Sárvári Tamás, an intern at the Steel Fabrication Design Office, won first place in the thesis competition organised by the Hungarian Steel Structures Association (MAGÉSZ).

bim.GROUP places great emphasis on nurturing talented young colleagues, supporting and encouraging their work in every possible way, and helping them consolidate their professional knowledge. Competitions such as the MAGÉSZ Thesis Award provide not only prestige but also industry-level recognition for the work, dedication and energy invested by young designers and engineers.

The assessment criteria included expectations such as highly innovative problem-solving and the originality of the proposed solution. The award aims to support students who produce outstanding theses relevant to the professional scope of MAGÉSZ, while also providing them with financial support and professional recognition. Its long-term objective is to strengthen the next generation of industry professionals and enhance the prestige of careers in the construction sector.

Tamás chose a unique subject for his thesis: protecting a Buddhist monument from environmental impacts. The stupa in Zalaszántó is a 30-metre-high and 24-metre-wide structure that cannot be altered for religious reasons. Tamás proposed designing an external enclosure to protect it from harmful environmental effects.

The resulting design was a steel gridshell dome supporting a glass envelope directly. The structure was designed parametrically, meaning that a script allows it to be adapted easily to different geometries and grid configurations. This enabled Tamás to examine various alternatives efficiently and identify an optimal design.

“I greatly appreciated that the judges selected my work, as this was a major milestone in my studies and I invested an enormous amount of energy in it. Many people make similar efforts in different areas of life, but it is rare to have the opportunity for that work to be recognised and appreciated in this way,” Tamás said regarding the award.

Within bim.GROUP, Tamás received support from Lewandowski Dávid, who helped establish the professional approach that enabled him to complete the project. He showed Tamás the depth and complexity involved in work of this scale, while also demonstrating the high professional standards represented by bim.GROUP.

Another interesting connection is that Martinovich Kálmán, also a colleague at bim.GROUP, received the very same award exactly ten years ago.
