bim.GROUP’s Australian Project Continues to Win Awards
Following its success at the Australian Steel Awards, bim.GROUP’s Rozelle Interchange/Parklands project has earned another prestigious recognition, ranking among the leading projects in the “Built Outcomes” category at the Australian Urban Design Awards. Led by Transport for NSW Urban Design, the development transformed the former industrial site of the Rozelle Rail Yards and made a significant contribution to the social and ecological renewal of Sydney’s Inner West.
bim.GROUP was proud to contribute to the delivery of the Australian Rozelle Interchange project, led by Studio Chris Fox. As part of a truly international team, our colleagues were responsible for modelling the steel structures and preparing the fabrication documentation. The client, structural engineering partners, subcontractors and manufacturers involved in the project were based in different parts of the world, including Australia, Germany and India.
The result is an impressive steel structure that brings together ecological systems from the past, present and future while integrating seamlessly into the natural and urban environment of Rozelle Bay.
Key features of the Rozelle Interchange/Parklands:
- Ten hectares of green space: The new park includes wetlands, picnic areas, playgrounds and open lawns designed to serve the diverse needs of the community.
- Excellent transport connections: Particular attention was paid to integrating pedestrian and cycling routes that connect surrounding neighbourhoods and locations, including Victoria Road, Annandale and the area around Anzac Bridge.
- Biophilic design and artistic integration: The steel structures and green walls surrounding the park’s three ventilation towers provide aesthetic value while also supporting greater urban biodiversity.
- Social and economic impact: Rozelle Parklands serves not only as a green space but also helps connect local communities and improve the quality of urban life. The project promotes sustainable transport and reduces the urban heat island effect.
- Exemplary urban regeneration: Rozelle Interchange/Parklands demonstrates how a previously abandoned industrial site can be transformed into a liveable, sustainable and community-focused urban space. Its successful integration of infrastructure development, community needs and environmental considerations contributed to its recognition.
