The Hungarian design and technical supervision delegation working on bim.GROUP’s BYD project was invited to China. Our colleagues had the opportunity to experience local technological solutions first-hand, gain insight into manufacturing processes and meet the Chinese colleagues with whom they are collaborating on the project.

Zeleny Lajos and Nagy Dávid, structural engineers at bim.GROUP, visited three cities during the trip. In Shanghai, they toured the offices of Open Steel Ltd., the company responsible for designing and manufacturing the steel structures for BYD’s new factory in Szeged. In addition to its design offices, they were also introduced to the company’s proprietary innovations and patented solutions. They then visited one of Open Steel’s largest steel manufacturing plants in Nantong.

After Shanghai, the delegation travelled to Xi’an, China’s ancient capital, where they toured an operational manufacturing complex very similar to the factory currently under construction in Szeged. They also had the opportunity to test BYD’s flagship Yangwang U8 model on the company’s own test track and visit the Terracotta Army, often described as the eighth wonder of the modern world.

The final destination was Shenzhen, home to BYD’s headquarters. Here, our colleagues learned more about the company’s history, achievements and long-term objectives, gaining further inspiring insights to support their work on the project.
