The National Athletics Centre Roof Structure Is Shortlisted for an International Award
We are delighted to announce that our National Athletics Centre project—more specifically, the design, manufacturing and construction of its roof structure—has been shortlisted for this year’s internationally recognised IStructE awards.
The Structural Awards 2024 have celebrated excellence in structural engineering for more than 50 years, recognising the very best achievements in the profession. Colleagues from bim.GROUP submitted the entry jointly with Buro Happold, which also participated in the design, while several other KÉSZ Group member companies made significant contributions to this landmark development. If the jury decides in our favour, another prestigious recognition could soon join last year’s Tekla BIM Award on our shelf.
The Structural Awards 2024 shortlist brings together some of the past year’s finest engineering projects, with particular emphasis on sustainability, social impact, innovation and ingenuity. Entries are assessed across four areas: Planet for environmental impact, People for social value, Process for technical innovation and Profession for contributions to the engineering profession. The National Athletics Centre is shortlisted in the Process category, highlighting the project’s technical innovation. Having our work recognised at this level is already a tremendous achievement.
What was the National Athletics Centre project about?
The new complex, which served as the main venue of the 2023 World Athletics Championships, was built south of Rákóczi Bridge on a triangular site bordered by the main branch of the Danube, the Ráckeve branch of the river and Kvassay Jenő Road.
bim.GROUP was responsible for preparing the technological and fabrication designs for the steel and cable structures, supporting the manufacturing, erection and surveying processes throughout construction, and coordinating the work of the specialist designers involved.
Several other KÉSZ Group member companies and strategic partners also contributed to the project, including KÉSZ Metaltech Kft., KÉSZ Ipari Gyártó Kft., Baumetall Design Kft. and Geolink3D.
