Several of our colleagues received another great honour, as Varga-Arendt Eszter, Juhász Márton István and Gyuricza Arnold participated as guest lecturers in one of the English-language MSc subjects at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The purpose of the subject, entitled Civil Engineering Automation and Modelling, is to introduce students to the typical workflows of the construction professions, help them understand the terminology used by professionals and provide an overview of the software they use. The modelling and analytical skills acquired in the course enable students to realistically assess the cost and time requirements of workflows performed by teams in their own profession. With this knowledge, once they enter industry, they will be better able to define the tools required for a problem and the possible solutions.
Within the subject, students learn about Tekla Structures, AxisVM and Revit software, as well as Rhinoceros 3D, used for parametric-algorithmic design, and its built-in Grasshopper plug-in. Our colleagues presented this latter topic to the students in three 60-minute blocks.
The three blocks were structured as follows:
  • a general presentation on algorithmic-parametric design, its logic and possibilities;
  • through a practical example - the movable bridge structure of the National Athletics Centre, completed this year - we introduced the students to the basics of the software and the construction of a bar-frame structure;
  • and through two other completed project examples, the steel crown structure of MOL Campus and the freeform steel roof structure of Jedlik Ányos Grammar School, we also covered and explained surface structures and related operations.
As in previous years, educating the professionals of the future continues to play a key role in the life of bim.GROUP. We are therefore especially proud that our colleagues have increasing opportunities to support the next generation of engineers. Practical examples taken from real life give students deeper insight into the everyday operation of the construction industry, helping prepare them for their chosen profession.
