We swept this year's TEKLA BIM Awards with two projects. On to the international round!
This year we not only managed to repeat our previous competition result, but exceeded expectations. We entered two projects for the TEKLA BIM Awards: the National Athletics Centre and Jedlik Ányos Grammar School. Both entries achieved major success in the professional jury vote, and bim.GROUP's submissions also won both public votes - qualifying us for the international competition.
The final result speaks for itself: in the regional ranking for Hungary and Romania, two bim.GROUP projects stood on the podium. The National Athletics Centre finished first, while Jedlik Ányos Grammar School took second place. In addition, both projects advanced to the international round as category winners. The announcements did not stop there: we are also pleased to report that the international Construsoft Tekla BIM Awards Public Vote Award was won by the Hungarian bim.GROUP entry, again the Jedlik Ányos Grammar School project.
The evaluation criteria included the innovative use of TEKLA Structures, model detail and buildability, material diversity, geometric complexity, BIM collaboration, coordination and cost efficiency, as well as architectural uniqueness and sustainability. Each jury member could score entries from 1 to 5, with the fifth five-point score awarded based on the ranking achieved in the public vote. After reviewing the high-quality projects, the entrants reached their final decision on 14 June. The diverse but ultimately unanimous opinion of the jury was supplemented by the public vote as a fifth jury member, and in a close competition the public ultimately changed the final outcome.
What were the projects in more detail, and what did we submit?
One of our entries presented the exceptional work carried out on the National Athletics Centre. The new complex, serving as the central venue of the 2023 World Athletics Championships, is located south of Rákóczi Bridge on the triangular site enclosed by the main Danube branch, the Ráckeve Danube branch and Kvassay Jenő Road. Our task was to prepare the technological and shop design documentation for the steel and cable structures, support the fabrication, erection and geodetic processes throughout implementation, and coordinate the work of the specialist designers involved.
The other entry was an outstanding facility in its own right: Jedlik Ányos Grammar School. The project is located in the Csepel district of Budapest, where the old grammar school was developed, extended by 6,500 m2 and fully reconstructed. We carried out the phases following concept design, namely the permitting documentation, construction design and shop design, with a team covering the five main disciplines: architecture, reinforced concrete and steel structural engineering, building envelope, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. The project's greatest structural challenge was the roof over the atrium, which required extensive experience, practice and the right software tools.
These projects could not have been realized without the right partners: KÉSZ Metaltech Kft., KÉSZ Ipari Gyártó Kft., Baumetall Design Kft. and Geolink3D. As in previous years, the award ceremony will be held at the autumn user meeting, where the winners will also have the opportunity to present their projects to a wider audience.
