Our colleague won the Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award
Kocsis András Balázs, bim.GROUP's Business Development Lead, won this year's high-level recognition of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers, the Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award. He received the honour for his contribution to the design of the steel roof covering of Puskás Aréna.
Over the years, András and his team have contributed to the realization of projects such as Groupama Arena, the National Athletics Centre and Duna Arena, and they have also worked abroad: he contributed to structural designs for the Tottenham Hotspur facility in London and, moreover, lent his expertise to the construction of Fisht Stadium for the Sochi Winter Olympics. His work has now been recognized by the Chamber as well, which awarded him this year's Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award specifically for his contribution to the design of the steel roof covering of Puskás Aréna.
The newly built pylons of the facility, handed over in November 2019 and outstanding in both Hungarian and international terms, play a fundamental load-bearing role, similarly to the free-standing columns of the former Népstadion. The elements of the cantilevered steel roof structure, with an 80-metre projection and suspended from these pylons, are stable in themselves and transfer their loads through prestressed strand anchoring to the sword-shaped blades integrated with the new pylons.
"I was deeply moved that engineering performance was recognized in this way and that the board considered me worthy of this award. It is important to emphasize that the realization of such a large project is always teamwork, and success requires the dedicated work of the engineers involved in the project. This award is also a recognition of their performance," András emphasized regarding the honour.
We congratulate him on this outstanding achievement and wish him continued success.
