Knowledge Sharing and Professional Dialogue – We took an active role in the 4th István Menyhárd Memorial Day
Two of our colleagues participated as speakers in one of the premier events of the Hungarian structural design profession, the 4th István Menyhárd Memorial Day and Professional Conference. However, our involvement in the two-day event, held at the Sheraton Hotel in Kecskemét (a member of the KÉSZ Group), went beyond giving presentations: Róbert Fekete and András Balázs Kocsis played an active role in the professional preparation of the conference, and the two-day technical program was moderated by András.
The event pays tribute to the memory of István Menyhárd, an Ybl Prize-winning engineer and an outstanding figure in Hungarian structural engineering. The memorial day carries this legacy forward through knowledge transfer, creating a shared platform for experienced professionals and young graduates, as well as university faculty and practicing engineers.
Róbert Fekete, Operational Head of Steel Structure Design in our structural engineering department, presented "The Evolution of Shop Detailing Methods in the Kecskemét Mercedes-Benz Factory Projects," showcasing the practical knowledge and parametric design expertise accumulated over the past decade. His presentation highlighted how manufacturing design techniques have evolved alongside the increasingly complex requirements of large-scale industrial projects.
András Balázs Kocsis, our Business Development Director, presented on behalf of the Structural Division of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers. In his presentation titled "Outlook on International Trends and Updates on the Work of International Engineering Organizations," he placed Hungarian engineering practice into a broader European context and offered insights into the professional work being carried out within international engineering bodies.
An essential part of the conference was the panel discussion titled "Where is the Profession Headed?" The dialogue focused on the future of engineering education, market workload and project supply, as well as preserving and passing on accumulated professional knowledge. The discussion also addressed how university education can prepare students to become responsible engineers who make independent decisions throughout their careers.
Professional dialogue is crucial to us because the true value of conferences lies not only in the presentations themselves, but also in the exchange of experience across generations, disciplines, academia, and practicing engineers.
Recognizing professional excellence is also an integral part of the memorial day: the results of the "Structural Project of the Year" competition are announced and awards are presented during the event. As mentioned in our previous news update, our colleagues received an award for the steel structure works of the MVM Dome.
We are proud to have contributed to this year's István Menyhárd Memorial Day as professional organizers, speakers, moderators, and main sponsors.
We believe that engineering knowledge only becomes truly valuable when shared—and when we build upon our experience to shape the future of our profession together.
